Why Honda Transmissions FAIL
Here's a look inside a V6 Honda automatic transmission and how it works!
In the late 90's to mid 2000's Honda experienced a high failure rate in their automatic transmissions paired with V6 models. This was due to insufficient cooling and poor filtration, causing the temperature of the fluid to increase and burn the clutches.
Honda transmissions are like manual transmissions inside, with an input shaft, countershaft and secondary shaft. Instead of using forks, they use clutches to lock the free spinning gear to the respective shaft. Torque is then transferred back to the countershaft which in turn drives the final drive at the differential.
In this video, a failed transmission from a 2006 Acura TL is torn down for analysis. The car had 200,000km and exhibited no movement when placed into gear. The second gear clutch was found burned out.
Skip to section in the video:
0:00 Introduction
0:53 Teardown
6:40 How it works
10:13 Failure Analysis
16:48 Conclusion

How Acura Super Handling AWD Works
Переглядів 26 тис.28 днів тому
Here's a look inside of a torque vectoring Honda Super-Handling all wheel drive differential and how it works! The engine typically transmits torque to the front wheels. With SH-AWD, Honda has used a FWD platform to create the driving dynamic of a RWD car by being able to bias the amount of torque supplied to each rear wheel. This allows for better corning, as it produces a moment about the car...

Why Audi V8 Engines are an Absolute Disaster
So the engine didn't fail and everything looked amazing besides carbon build up😂. What fo you have against the ecotec engine? Ive seen them will well over 200k
Crazy that the block and head gasket are basically perforated between the cylinders by design. I'm surprised any of these last 100k miles.
At what mileage interval do you recommend replacing the timing belt on most vehicles ?
Holy cow the engine layout is so similar to toyota echo
Had a 08 Jetta with a manual, was a great car😌
It’s kinda crazy as I had a 2013 Fusion Titanium and a 2017 Fusion Sport and didn’t have ANY problems with the engines…But my sister had a 2017 Fusion Platinum and her engine had to be completely replaced…I don’t drive a Ford anymore since they don’t make cars anymore(I have a 93 Cobra and had a 2012 v6, not great cars to drive in the northeast…They made a mistake imo for not figuring out a way to make an awd option for the Mustang😕Also, not offering an auto in the Focus RS.) I guess cars will basically be phones soon
Also, got better mpg from the 2012 Mustang V6 compared to the 2.0
Your wife’s tooth brush 😂
Yep!
He is a mechanic
Engineer. Not mechanic.
❤❤❤😊 thx u
Timing belt. No kidding
Ecoboom (wet belt most likely)
My buddy got 190k out of his fiesta ST with 24lbs of boost for 9 years. Best engine in the ecoboost series IMO
Any Mazda cx5 sky active vids???
Well done sir!!
Thank you so much for sharing this information! 👌✨✨
do you have a diagram of the entire hybrid system ?
Didn’t have one single issue out of my Ecoboost ‘Stang
Making it look easy but tight spot, so far this girls escape, had the driver seat removed, and the steering wheel and shaft and dash and the steering shaft won't fit in the knuckle, and is stuck, the replacement part is stuck, won't go
Wow mate
LOL! Another very entertaining tear-down!
Always enjoy your tear-downs!
Reliability. Efficiency. Power. You get to pick two.
I wanna ask does my Toyota c-hr 2.0 hybrid have this transmission ?
this boy helped me more more than anyone else i saw on UA-cam
"Five pointed hex" is an oxymoron. "Hex" comes from "hexa" which means "six". It's a pentagon if it has five points.
Control valve instaled on housing but direction not at neutral, can make steering heavy feel when turning ?
1:14 😩😩 THIS WAS ME! And I felt so stupid, Until I saw your blooper now, I don’t feel so bad 😂🤗 Great video thanks for sharing!!
Thank you ❤
Infamous 1.4 l
bmw had nothing to do with the W10/ W11, other than ancillaries and making it fit in their mini product, chrysler/fiat designed
my 18 f150 40 miles 90k truck lasted untill the 40 k warranty
Customers complain about mechanical noise especially on DI engines. That’s why they try to dampen with so much plastic. The vacuum pump isn’t due to the turbo it’s due to the VVT. Factory cam specs may not produce acceptable vacuum under all conditions. Plenty of NA engines that also have pumps.
90% of the people commenting never even owned an Audi
Damn that was too easy and straight forward
Those are some shockingly bad design decisions. Ford should be ashamed
No keys on the crank or gear for the timing belt. What a dumb design.
is the 2023 3.6 motors decent?
is it similar in the ES330? i have a burned out ignition ring light on mine
This guy a GM simp or something? Remember when Ford took the bailout? No? Oh right, because they're the only American automotive manufacturer that DIDN'T have to get bailed out. This engine is clearly the victim of poor maintenance.
Mitsubishi is the same just cooler looking pile of horseshit I love Mitsubishi but the Cvt automatic transmission is trash 🗑️ it over heats after an hour of driving at 70 miles per hour
Save $500 on gas Spend $5000 on a new engine 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Wonderful! I hope you are getting well paid for all your knowledge. Helped me understand my 2016 Odyssey shudder from VCM.
You are going to end up with a lot of extra parts😂.🤦🏽♂️
I've owned nothing but Ford for the last 20 years. Never broke down or had any issues whatsoever.
I wonder why they are using discrete knock sensors instead of sensing via the spark plugs, like many (most?) others? Maybe related to only having direct injection?
Great job!
I just traded my f150 with the 3.5TT with 310,000; only repair on that truck was a water pump and turbo oil lines.. only reason we traded it now was when the transmission started slipping.
So tl:dr is that it's a decent engine if only the retarded too-close cylinder spacing was spread out and auxuliary eqpt would be mounted as to allowe one thing to be removed/replaced without taking the whole engine apart.
My parents have a fiesta with ecoboost and 6 speed auto. Zero problems except for a door lock recall
Great video...Definitely not for a beginner. Pure nightmare of a job for anyone... Especially putting it back together.
